Registry The Primate appointed the Reverend Canon Colin Aiken, OAM, RFD as ADF Chaplaincy Registrar on 8 April 2002. Canon Aiken has built an electronic database of all baptisms, confirmations, marriages and funerals conducted by uniformed chaplains since the Great War of 1914-18. He has also created systems for the on-line registration of occasional services by ADF Chaplains and the supply of Christian initiation certificates. In addition to his duties as Senior Chaplain, Headquarters Australian Army Cadets, Canon Aiken has responsibility for the positive vetting and licensing of all Anglican ADF and AAC chaplains and licensed lay ministers, and the maintenance of accurate Primatial records relating to ADF ministry for the General Synod Office. After consultation with the Primate and the Church Law Commission, a decision was made in early 2002 to issue licences to all ADF Reserve chaplains. Chaplain Aiken is also the Anglican ADF Chaplaincy Director of Ordinands with responsibility for the preparation of candidate profiles and the recording and processing of examination results.
A Prayer Book for Australia Copyright LicenceADF Chaplaincy has an A Prayer Book for Australia (APBA) group copyright licence – 2003/021. The ADF licence is made up of the year, ie., 2003 or 2004, and the same group number each year - 021. This number should be quoted whenever chaplains reproduce material from APBA for public worship. Registration of Occasional ServicesAll documents requiring registration and enquiries about other Registry matters should be addressed to: Chaplain Colin Aiken, OAM, RFD CHAPLAIN COLIN AIKEN, OAM, RFD Padre Aiken was born in Auburn NSW. After studying for the Anglican Ministry at Ridley College Melbourne and ordination as an Anglican Priest in 1966 he was Commissioned as a CMF Chaplain in the Royal Australian Army Chaplains Department in March 1969. Since his appointment as a Chaplain, Padre Aiken has held a number of senior postings within the CMF and Army Reserve including, Co-ordinating Chaplain 2nd Cadet Brigade, Senior Chaplain 2nd Training Group Ingleburn, Senior Chaplain Regional Training Centre NSW Moorebank, Senior Chaplain 2nd Division, Senior Chaplain Operational Search Battalion – Operation Gold, (Sydney Olympics) and Staff Chaplain Eastern Region. He is currently posted as Senior Chaplain HQ AAC, and in addition was appointed Registrar and Director of Ordinands for Anglican Defence Force Chaplaincy by the Primate. Padre Aiken is Chaplain to a number of ex-service organisations, including The Royal Australian Artillery Association NSW Branch and the National Servicemen’s Association NSW Branch. Padre Aiken is a graduate of the Reserve Command and Staff College, the Australian Emergency Management Institute Mt Macedon Victoria and the New South Wales Police Academy. Padre Aiken has a strong interest in disaster and critical incident counselling. Padre Aiken’s Honours and Awards include the Order of Australian Medal, Reserve Forces Decoration, Australian Cadet Long Service Medal, Chaplain of the Order of St John, Land Commander’s Commendation and Commander Naval Support Command Commendation. Padre Aiken was appointed a Canon of All Saints Cathedral Bathurst in 2003 in recognition of his service to the Australian Defence Force. In civilian life Padre Aiken is an Anglican Minister and Police Chaplain. Padre Aiken has been married to Patricia for thirty-eight years, and they have three grown up children. |
